Things to Bring

Some things are definitely useful for a comfortable stay in Ilha Grande! So come prepared and be ready for action!

Please remember that the Island 's roads are rough cobblestones or sandy tracks and are frequently uneven or steep.

Lugging 35 kilos of Samsonite  baggage  up the steep entrance to Aratinga is a challenge you don't need!

The most important thing is to "Travel  Light" and only bring what you will really need. It's much easier with a back pack, but small suitcases are fine.  My advice is to leave heavy denim jeans and very heavy sweatshirts at home.

Quick dry materials are very light and great in the tropics at any time of the year.

Don't forget to bring:

  • a  synthetic beach towel (a cotton sarong is better than a towel)

  • insect repellent

  • sunscreen 50+

  • comfortable shoes, sandals with velcro straps

  • flip flops

  • raincoat

  • umbrella

  • small hiking backpack

  • light puffer jacket (May-October)

  • hand flashlight

  • earplugs - Brazilian music can be heard at any time of the day or night!

  • rechargeable batteries or spare batteries

  • power adapters for South America (110W and 220W)

The village of Abraão, has 9 mini supermarkets, 3 bakeries, a pharmacy and beachwear and souvenir shops. Remember, there are no banks or ATMs on Ilha Grande, so bring enough cash to cover small purchases. All shops, tourist agencies and restaurants accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex credit cards.
